Eleftherias Square
Our proposal pertains to the redevelopment of Eleftherias Square, along the seaside front of Thessaloniki. The transformation of the Square into a pedestrian-friendly zone, the highlighting of its direct and indirect links to the urban fabric and the sea, as well as the implicit reminding of its important historical context, are the main pillars of our proposal.
The movements and the concepts that cross paths in the Square are arranged, put in order and soothed down so as to create a bond between the Square and the city residents. Our designing does not include any “morphological peaks”, taking into account that a great deal is already taking place inside and around the Square (view, wall, movements, trees, surrounding buildings). Therefore, we only focus on offering visitors the possibility to absorb and fully experience all these images, thus becoming a part of the city’s life.
Our proposal incorporates a sustainability-driven approach, not as an additional element, but as a guiding principle that steers any designing decision, intertwining the city’s needs and the landscape.
