Restoration of an old oil press, along with an addition of a floor, in Tholaria, Amorgos, destined for a new use, that of small apartments (2×64 square meters) available for short-time rent.
The preservation of the oil press in combination with its new use as a tourism facility were the key elements that crafted the new identity of the building, inspired by the unique architectural tradition of Amorgos.
Providing sufficient lighting for the ground floor and creating two autonomous residences led us to remove the main space of the old oil press, resulting in an open space at the center of the building, around of which all closed and open spaces of the two apartments are developed. The milestone at the center of the patio and the arch were both preserved, the latter becoming a feature of the apartment’s B interior. Stone, white plaster, wood and waxed concrete served as the main materials for the building.
