Ηoliday residence renovation of 102 square meters and a guesthouse of 32 square meters in Kato Samiko, Peloponnese. Α ground floor residence and a shed, both of them built in 1970, were the preexisting structures. The owner’s main requests were to fully renovate the two buildings, while preserving their original outline, and to redesign the exterior premises. The main residence is comprised of the kitchen, the living room and two bedrooms. The main bedroom has its own bathroom and a walk-in closet. The shed was upgraded into an autonomous guesthouse.
The two buildings share a yard; equally important to the interior rooms, given the fact that the buildings are also intended to serve as summer residences. Two wooden pergolas that function as an intermediary space for shade shelter a big part of the yard. The plants, the floor materials, a bench and a BBQ area are key features in its layout..
Simplicity and clean minimal lines are the defining element of the architectural design, in continuation of the design principles of the preexisting structures. Contemporary materials and self-built structures were used in order to optimize the use of space and achieve uniformity. A great deal of emphasis was placed on reducing energy consumption, through the use of passive and active energy consumption reduction strategies. Within the framework of this project, we undertook the tasks of designing, supervising and managing the construction work.
